Turning his chair back around, Xavier quirked a brow at the outburst. "First of all, concerns like yours are part of the reason this institute does not exist so far as the world knows. Anonymity is our primary defense. Second of all... if you think you are the most powerful mutant in this house, you are sadly mistaken."
If you'll forgive the arrogance of the statement, Miss Savoy, he spoke to her without voicing a word. You aren't even the most powerful one in the room. I don't tell you this to intimidate you or threaten you, just as I don't tell you your safe simply to pacify you. You are dangerous. So is every mutant who has ever existed. Would you have me lock you up in a cell for fear of what you might do? By the criteria this school itself would be a prison, and I myself would be locked away. Greater threats than you have walked these halls, walk them still. A slip of one boys glasses and his eyes burn through almost any material known to man. Another is frightened, and whoever he points a hand suffers irreversible, potentially lethal radiation.
"I won't entertain what might be, because it wont be. I sense every feeling in this building, whether I want to or not. That is part of what I struggle to control. If you begin slipping, I will know. And we will help you stop yourself before you slip over the edge, or keep you contained until it passes. If you can't trust me, trust your friend. Kevin's skin with destroy anything it touches, and yet since his arrival here, he hasn't harmed anyone. I've given you my word I will not let anything happen to you. It's a promise I give to all of my students. I'm not going to break it. Not ever. "

She shuddered when he spoke in her mind, her shoulders hunching as she grabbed the side of her head with one hand and closed her eyes. It wasn't something she was used to, likely not something anyone was really used to. But he was using it to make a point, and she was having trouble grasping it. His message still got through to her, despite the fact that she was struggling to keep it out.
She didn't bother telling him to stay out of her head- he probably already knew it was coming, so she just glared defiantly at him. Her pointed ears shifted downwards like a sad puppy, but the look on her face was much too aggressive for something so sweet.
"It's on you..." she said. Her voice was quiet and not nearly a whisper but it was hoarse. She held his stare for a second then looked away, bearing almost a pout if it hadn't been so bitter. But it was likely she'd resign to being shown her new room now, he'd broken her to that point at least.

Nodding in accent, he took the responsibility on willingly. The more he could shoulder for his students, the better. It was a difficult world they were growing up in, where every day crimes occurred, where on the opposite side of the river villains were prowling and destroying all establishment they could seize hold of. If he could help the next generation to see that for every evil there was good ready to step to the plate, that for every problem there was a system of support to find the best solution, then he would have done enough.
She was a mutant. As he saw it, her actions had been on him since she entered the doors to his home.
He moved to the door, opening it and wheeling back, holding it for her. "Shall we?"

This wasn't how she'd expected this whole thing to go down. She expected once they brought her in to 'talk' and try to enroll her- cause she always figured they would- that she'd be able to laugh at him. Spit in his face, tell him he's an idiot and leave. And maybe five months ago she would have. No... She knew she would have. What had happened between then and now she wasn't sure, and she also wasn't sure if it was for better or worse just yet. The real trial was coming up.
She stared at him for a moment longer, before willingly going through the door. She was still tense, and a cripple just held the door open for her. Regardless, she walked with him, occasionally glancing down out of the corner of her eye. Then she looked away and sighed heavily.
"What happened to your legs..." she asked. Jakkie made an effort to sound disinterested, but there was an honest curiosity. It was almost child like. Was he born like that? Was that part of his mutation? You get to be in every ones head but you forfeit walking? Shitty...

The school was bustling at this hour, afternoon classes being released, allowing for students to go enjoy the evening sun before dinner. He was guiding Jakkie to the elevator when she posed the rather bluntly put question. She was hardly the first to pose it, of course. The lack of tact really shouldn't have taken him by surprise.
"Oh, I got tired of walking everywhere, realized allowing electronics to do all the hard work was much more logical," he hit the button for the third floor, and let the unconvincing lie hang in the air a moment more before he confessed, "an accident."
He didn't want to go into detail. Talking about Eric was never easy. Talking about Eric to a girl who was struggling with her inner demons would be even worse.
"I should ask, are you the one who's been eating all that chocolate ice cream out of the ice box? It's becoming something of a conspiracy among a few of the professors, no matter how much gets piled in there never seems to be any remaining by the weeks end. It's put Logan all out of sorts." He wanted to keep the conversation light, but it was a genuine discussion amongst the teachers. There had been enough talk of death and the lingering sense of bad memories for the day. As he waited for a response, he moved through the open doors, a handful of students waiting for them to exit first.

She squinted, and sucked in one one of her cheeks as she assessed him. Funny guy. And she was amused, but the only tell she gave away was the way her ears shifted. One down, the other up, and it twitched. She thought it was funny, but sh wasn't ready to show Xavier any emotion besides her passive frown. It was when he admitted that it was an accident that it sparked her interest. He didn't want to talk about it, she knew well enough what that looked like since she gave those short answers a lot herself.
But then he started talking about ice-cream, diminishing her window to push the topic.
"I don't like chocolate." she admitted. It was the truth. She wasn't even really fond of ice-cream.
Her new struggle came with the amount of students currently in the halls. When the doors opened to reveal a pack of kids and they were taking their exit, she gave a particularly vicious hiss at a couple of them as she passed. She was like a bad pet- but she hadn't lost pace with Xavier while she'd done it, shoving her hands in her pockets with a particularly annoyed look on her face. There were so many people, she was feeling on edge.
Usually if she was in the halls when there were this many people she was with Kevin. Otherwise it was night, and everyone had long since gone to bed.

Xavier nodded morosely as she explained she didn't like chocolate. "Ah, and so the mystery continues to vex us."
He made no comment to Jakkie as she hissed at the students, but made a point of greeting a few of them by name before carrying on down the hall. "This section houses exclusively ladies around the same age as yourself, with of course one of our female professors on the floor. That's her room there, feel free to give a knock if you have any questions or concerns. Ah! And here's you."
They'd come to the very end of the hall, and he pushed open the door, ushering her in. It was the same size as all the other rooms, but this one was located on the very corner of the building, looking out over the forests and the gardens below, with large bay windows streaming in light. The room itself was somewhat spare, a bed with sheeting stacked on it, a dresser, a book shelf, desk, and a few chairs for reading. "I hope you'll find it suits your needs - this is one of the quieter wings, so you'll have plenty of space to yourself of course."

Jakkie only grunted as Xavier explained that this wing was for girls her age, and the directed her the door to go to if she needed anything. The grunt was an acknowledgement yet did manage to sound rather dismissive. Xavier seemed to have a knack for reading her anyways, and though she hardly gave it a second thought it went without saying that he'd probably understand.
When he opened the door to the room and they entered it however, she was surprised. Surprised that she liked it. It was bright, unlike anything she'd ever remembered in her childhood. There was always some rag, or cheap curtain over the windows when she was growing up. Light came from the lamps, so the natural light flooding in through these windows was something close to uplifting for her.
For a moment she forgot to stay guarded, so her eyes for once didn't look completely unimpressed or annoyed- but actually searching with a sort of brightness. Even her ears had perked some, but then they twitched and she swallowed, looking at the ground and composing herself.
At least now I can steal one of those chairs from the games room... she pondered. She hadn't been able to with Kevin, for fear he might accidentally touch it and feel bad. She did like those chairs...
"Did the accident hurt?" she asked out of the blue. She hadn't honestly meant to bring it up so suddenly this time- realizing she probably should have said something about the room first. She shifted her jaw and looked at the ceiling before adding, "It's really nice." and clearing her throat.
The whole way it had come out had been a mess, in all honesty.

She didn't say much, but Xavier took her not growling to be a positive sign. For a moment, she even looked pleased, before remembering herself and putting back on the mask of indifference bordering on annoyance. His mind was caught up in trying to decide which of the teachers might best suit her needs, so her inquiry into the cause of his paralysis took him off guard. He lifted a brow, trying to think of what she meant.
Confusion gave way to saddened understanding, but it only showed in his eyes. His smile remained. "I'm glad you approve. And yes, it did a bit. But of course I couldn't feel my legs, so that lessened it a fair amount. Now, I'm afraid this is where I'll have to leave you - I'm needed in the lower levels, it's pick up day for a few new students. Feel free to decorate the room, whatever you need to feel at home."
He turned the chair, heading for the door. Just as he was about to pass through he paused, looking back over his shoulder. "And Jakkie? If your going to be taking one of those chairs, please make sure not to scuff the floor too much on your journey - our poor custodian would have a might have a tad of a fit, he already has his hands full with a few of our speedsters."
And with that he carried on.
