She’s trusting but not to a naïve point. Joan has a gentle, soothing way of speaking and is quite kindhearted. Despite having a sarcastic attitude when it comes to dealing with non-patients, Joan can turn herself around and be social if she needs to. However, with the patients that need a firmer hand, she has no problem laying down the law.

History:
Born to an affluent Gotham family, Joan was sure she wanted to help people from the time she was six years old. She and her family would go off and feed the homeless of Gotham, bring their pets to old folks homes to cheer them up and do many other charitable works. Joan’s father, a reconstructive surgeon in Gotham’s elite hospital, wanted his girls to see there was more to life than money and that people always needed help. Through high school, Joan worked on suicide hotlines, volunteered at a children’s psychiatric ward and even did a brief internship at her father’s hospital. Joan was sure, like her father and mother that she wanted to be a doctor. But not for the physical body, for the mind. Joan was fascinated by the criminal psyche from a young age and trying to reform it instead of locking it away. However all of her interests left very little time for socialization and Joan spent a good deal of her high school and college years friendless.
Joan would graduate with honors from Gotham University and move onto Gotham Medical School. There she met a charismatic young teacher’s aide name Jonathon Crane. The two had many of their classes together and struck up a tense friendship with one another. Joan was never sure Crane was entirely all there. However when they both graduated and Crane was offered a job at Arkham, he brought Joan along with him. Ecstatic, Joan was ready and willing to work to reform the criminally insane. There was also a strictly professional yet sexual relationship going on between her and Crane.
Joan was suspicious however when a few mob killers started turning up in Arkham. She questioned Crane about it who tossed her off as being paranoid. Joan continued to work with her patients until the crime boss, Carmine Falconi was brought in screaming in terror. Joan put her foot down after that, telling Crane she was going to report him to the medical board for unethical conduct. Crane was about to retaliate when the ordeal with the Batman happened, causing Crane to be placed in Arkham now under the care of Joan who was appointed as the new head of the hospital.
Joan has, since then, had to deal with Gotham’s worst. But she remains optimistic about the outcome hoping to reform each and every one of her patients.
Sample Post:
Brown orbs relaxed as she walked into the room, an officer at her right side just in case. She crossed her arms over her modest chest and shook her head. "When will you learn, Crane," she purred, "You can't escape and think you're going to stay free."
"Oh it's a good thing they put you in charge, doctor," Crane said sarcastically, "Because you're major in school was indeed pointing out the obvious."
"If I'm right," Leland breathed, "Then why do you keep running off? I always thought you liked my company." Crane's blue orbs narrowed as Leland turned to an orderly beside her. "Give him 30cc's of his favorite and send him off to a holding cell." Crane rolled his eyes.
"Don't worry," Leland said, "I'll be in shortly to evaluate you."
"Though we all know the outcome."
"Yes."
"So why do you do it?" Leland rolled her own eyes and tossed a hand back. "Ms. Leland."
"DOCTOR," she clucked, "I didn't go to school for four years and deal with your corruption to be called 'MS.'"
